The website of the Bloor Cinema reports that it will be closing on June 30 for some renovations. The notice reports that they plan to be open i the fall for some of their favorite events such as Doc Soup and Toronto After Dark Film Festival.
Bloor, as it’s affectionately known, is proudly independent, and shows second run movies (movies that have already been in theatres, but not yet released to DVD or for home viewing). They also screen classic films, art films, and cult classics. The Rocky Horror Picture show is a big favorite shown on the last Friday of every month and on Halloween with a live cast.
The retro-styled theatre continues to be the most atmospheric place in the city to see rare and hard to find movie classics, as well as premiere presentations of new films from around the world at dozens of film festivals and special screenings every year. If you haven’t seen a showing at the Bloor – you should try it!
Eye Weekly has repeatedly elected the Bloor as best repertoire cinema.
The 106 year old building was last renovated in 1999.
