We had a grand evening at Toronto’s Jane Mallet Theatre in the St. Lawrence Centre this Friday night. “To Life” is a Musical Review. Very specifically a Jewish Musical Review by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company, directed and choreographed by Avery Saltzman and Tim French. Mark Camilleri was the musical director… Good job!
Mark Camilleri played piano along with Jeffrey Huard. Four singers, all of which were unique characters within themselves and it truly shined through.
The four singers were Charlotte Moore, Gabi Esptein and Shawn Wright and Patrick Cook. Hard to tell which I liked best they were each fantastic in their own unique way.
When we first sat down and read the program guide we were blown away by the song list about 35 tunes for each Act of which there were two.
The music simply flowed and the songs just ran beautifully one into the other in a natural rhythm giving us great renditions of past musicians in both acts telling us who the original singers were that made these tunes famous.
In the second act we got a nice little story line there of Jewish life from birth to death with many old Fanny Bryce songs, mimicing Barbara Streisands way of performing them.
These singers all had interesting styles and excellent voices. The two woman’s were extraordinary and I am surprised they are playing in Toronto when they could be on broadway somewhere.
Seasons tickets were on sale for next season consisting of 5 performances all about Jewish Life. The prices were quite reasonable for the series so if you enjoy this type of humor and who doesn’t you may want to check it out . Here’s the link St.LawrenceCentre
