October 2: Scotiabank’s Nuit Blanche

Nuit Blanche is celebrating its fifth year by inviting guests to explore any and all of their three different contemporary art locations.

There is so much to see with a total of over 130 art projects! You can be entertained by the all-night dance performances, participate in the ongoing knitting collaboration, or celebrate at the twelve-hour birthday party. Whether you just do one thing or explore everything the Nuit Blanche has to offer, your sure to have a great time.

The celebration beings at 6:57pm and continues all night until sunrise. This event is free to enter, to there is no reason not to check it out!

October 9: Soupalicious Toronto

Soupalicious Toronto is a one-day eating festival! The event will be taking place in Heritage Court at Exhibition Place from 11am until 4pm.

Soupalicious is a chance for you to sample and purchase some of the best soup made by top chefs using locally grown vegetables in support of the Plant a Row – Grow a Row program. Not only will you be able to taste the best soup, you’ll also be supporting your local farmers, chefs, and restaurants!

All-you-can-slurp soup stations allow you to take full advantage of all the different soups for your sampling pleasure!

Tickets can be purchase in advance for $10 or for $15 at the door (the cover charge also includes 10 free soup samples). Family passes for four can be purchased in advance for $25 and or for $35 at the door, and includes 25 free soup samples. Additional soup tastings are available for $1 per serving.

October 13-17: Planet in Focus International Film & Video Festival

Planet in Focus International Film & Video Festival is has been king of environmentally-focused films since 1999. The festival promotes “environmental artistic expression in the form of film, video and new media to frame and explore environmental and ecological issues as a catalyst for awareness, discussion and engagement.”

This year there will be over 60 documentaries, features, and children’s films to discover from over 30 different countries!

The films are addressing issues such as biodiversity, elephant rehabilitation, clean water availability, genetically-modified food, climate change, and food sovereignty.

October 13-27: Harvest Wednesdays

Harvest Wednesdays are two days of October on which Gladstone Hotel celebrates everything that is local, fresh, and seasonal!

You can enjoy live music, wine and beer tasting as part of the festivities, and if you’re still hungry, the Gladstone’s Ballroom Café and Melody Bar will feature seasonal produce specials on the menu!

October 13th is the first Wednesday of the celebration. From 6:30pm until 8:30pm the Hotel is hosting a late harvest tasting, allowing the participants to meet local farmers and producers as well as sample their fresh and tasty seasonal food. Tickets are $19.95 per person, and includes wine and beer sampling.

October 27th is the second half of the hotels celebration. At 6:30pm come and enjoy a three-course late harvest farmhouse dinner produced by the previous day’s farm harvest. You’ll also be able to enjoy the delicious local fish, meats and poultry. Tickets are $49.95 per person (not including wine, beer, or cocktails).

At the bar you can purchase seasonal wine and beer pairings from local vineyards and breweries, as well as seasonal cocktails!

October 20-24: Creativ Festival

Creativ Festvival will be held at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre’s South Building for it’s 23rd year celebration! The festival is a great opportunity to be inspired by the experts, as well as learn about new innovative techniques and products.

October 25: Vote! Toronto Elections

It’s time to vote! If your a Canadian citizen living in Toronto and are over 18 years of age, you’re eligible to vote.

There will be 1 mayor, 44 councillors, and 39 school board trustees elected. Elected officials will be responsible for just about everything in Toronto from fixing roads, to running public transit, to supporting the arts, to caring for children and the elderly to garbage collection.

You will be required to show your voter information card and a piece of ID showing your name, Toronto address, and signature.

October 29-31: Toronto International Art Fair

Toronto International Art Fair is celebrating its 11th year anniversary at Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

There will be 108 international art galleries attending the party! There is also a diverse cultural program, panel discussions, and an opportunity to explore all that’s happening in the art world.

On opening night is a benefit for the Art Gallery of Ontario. The guests will be able to view and purchase art the day before the fair begins, as well as meet some of the fair’s artists!

October 31: Kensington Market’s Pedestrian Sunday

This Halloween you’ll definitely want to take advantage of Kensington Market’s Pedestrian Sundays!

From 12 noon until 7pm the streets are banned of vehicles from Kensington Market, and pedestrians rule Kensington Avenue, Baldwin Street and Augusta Avenue!

Live performers and musicians will be all around the streets as well as artists to make sure your fully entertained!
